The practice № 4 of 6

Four disciplines, one method.

Everything we take on is a room someone must live with. The programmes differ; the discipline — survey, subtract, make, finish — does not.

Method · № 01 — 05 The only order that works

Five movements, always in order.

1.

The survey

Two of us, one day, every room measured and photographed — including the cupboards you hoped we would skip. We leave with the truth of the plan.

Week 1
2.

The argument

The studio review. Every project gets the full fourteen — the cabinetmaker’s veto, the colourist’s heresy, the economist’s arithmetic. You receive one recommendation, not a menu.

Weeks 2 — 5
3.

The drawings

Everything drawn at full resolution: plans, joinery, light positions, the schedule of materials with samples posted to your door. Nothing on site is improvised.

Weeks 6 — 12
4.

The making

Our own benches for the joinery; a short list of builders we have shouted at affectionately for a decade for the rest. Weekly site notes, photographed.

Months 4 — 12
5.

The finish

We hang the last picture, set the last lamp at 2700 K, and leave. Twelve months later we return once, uninvited, to see what the room became. It is always our favourite visit.

Correspondence · № 02 Asked often

Questions, answered.

Will you work with our existing furniture?

Gladly — subtraction is our favourite budget line. Expect honesty about which pieces have earned their place and which are merely heavy.

Do you take projects outside Denmark?

Two of the eight yearly commissions may travel. Oslo, Berlin, London and Kyoto have all survived the arrangement; the site notes simply arrive by post.

Can we hire you for just a colour consultation?

No — and this is affection, not arrogance. Colour chosen without the plan is a bandage. The single-room study is our smallest honest unit of work.

How far ahead are you booked?

Presently: two commissions remain for Autumn 2026. The waiting list rolls into spring, and we hold it strictly in order of the first conversation.

Movement one begins with a survey.
